Growing hope.
Our resources and curriculum are designed to help people with health conditions grow their sense of wellbeing, connectedness, and hope.
Hope is at the heart of our curriculum. Through it, we aim to equip you with the tools to master whatever mountain you face, whether it is a physical peak or a personal milestone.
Hope: what is it?
At the heart of our approach is Rachel Colla et al.’s (2022) reconceptualisation of Hope Theory. Building upon the foundational work of Rick Snyder, this model views hope not as a vague wish or a linear thought process, but as a dynamic energy system derived from the interplay between your internal motivations and external conditions. Hope, then, is a way of thinking, feeling, and being. According to Colla et al., hope is an emergent property; when the right elements work together, hope arises as a powerful force for change.
This energy system is fueled by four distinct "powers":
WayPower (Pathways): The ability to generate multiple, flexible routes to reach desired goals and navigate obstacles.
WillPower (Agency): The goal-directed determination and capacity to initiate and continue movement along those pathways.
WhyPower (Meaning): The deeper sense of purpose and value that makes a goal personally significant and provides the motivation to persevere through difficulties.
WePower (Community): Your social connectedness and ability to tap into external resources and social systems for support, ensuring you never have to climb alone.
