David Cycles for Mastering Mountains

Kia ora, I’m David Kyle. I’m a mountain biker, a husband and a father of four. I enjoy hitting local MTB trails with mates and treasure time spent with family on outdoor adventures. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and I am fundraising for Mastering Mountains.

Why I‘m Fundraising

With the support of Mastering Mountains, I want to complete the 20 km Karapoti Classic mountain bike race on March 4th, 2023. Mikola and the kids will cheer me on at the finish line, and I would also love your support.

I have always wanted to complete the Karapoti Classic but never got around to it. One thing I’ve learnt from my multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis it’s this: don’t take your body for granted. If your body stops working as it should, it can be pretty frustrating, and you’d do anything to get it back to how it was.

For me, the process of training for the race is about pushing back on MS and getting back some of what I’ve lost. I want to overcome the limitations of my symptoms and continue cycling with friends and family long into the future. Accomplishing this goal will show that people with MS can still stay active and enjoy the outdoors.

I will use my journey to raise funds and awareness for other people with MS. Mastering Mountains Charitable Trust has given me a grant that gets me the specialist support I need to accomplish my goal. I want to enable others to get the help they need to enjoy the outdoors and achieve their adventure dreams.

I hope to improve … my symptoms and show that with exercise and training, people with MS can still stay active and enjoy exercising in the outdoors.
